windows.

Repurposing old windows is so in right now. If you look in magazines or in boutiques they are all over the place. You can make them into picture frames, chalkboards, furniture, etc... I love the charming look of them and have wanted one for awhile. Unfortunately, I don't have any old windows laying around [weird I know!] and the ones i've seen for sale are $50+... I can't justify that! Instead, I thought I'd get creative and see what I could come up with.

I started with this plain frame that I got for $.99 at the thrift store.

I took a hammer and a screwdriver to it and banged it up a little to make it look old. I then painted it brown.

I needed some window panes so I just cut up a cardboard box and improvised with some hot glue...

After the brown paint came a light coat of green paint. Then I distressed it with some sand paper. I wanted the brown to show through and I wanted to see the brush strokes, I think that it makes the window look older and cottage-y and thats the look I was going for. If you wanted a bolder look then you could just do a thicker top coat of paint.

Here's a close up so you can see the scratches and distressed look.

And here's the finished product! I love how it turned out. Trevor said that it doesn't look like a window but it looks 'cute.' I'll take it! I think he's just happy that the entire project cost less than $3. Eventually I'll probably take off the burlap and star and add some cute pictures or something but for now I like the look, what do you think?

I agree with Trevor. Not so much like a window, but "cute". Get your craft juices flowing kels, you're going to be coming out to visit and have a craft day with megan one of these days.

Now what you need to do is frame an actual window and pretend it is a picture.
